Aqueduct Foundation’s mission is to facilitate significant personal philanthropy. It does so via donor advised funds. Aqueduct has three types of donor-advised funds: advised funds, legacy funds, and charity funds. Aqueduct is a registered charity and acts as a bridge to other charities and charitable purposes.
Cause Neutral, Long Term Focus
Aqueduct Foundation is one of the largest grant makers in Canada and a pioneer in flexible granting. It has granted $878 million to other registered charities since inception in 2006 to 2024. Aqueduct Foundation has assets of over $1 billion at December 31, 2024.
Aqueduct makes grants to any Canadian registered charity or qualified donee based on recommendations from donors or their designated Grant Advisors. We also support fundholders with specialized charitable programs, including community scholarships, art foundations, land conservation, and the management of charitable-purpose real estate.
Aqueduct may also grant to organizations that are not Canadian registered charities, including Canadian non-profits conducting charitable activities and international charities, where appropriate due diligence frameworks are in place.
As a cause neutral foundation, Aqueduct supports the charitable priorities of its donors.
Each donor advised fund, or personal foundation, has its own mission and charitable priorities. At the recommendation of its donors, Aqueduct grants to any Canadian registered charity, in any amount, at any time.
Aqueduct also runs charitable programs on a fund-by-fund basis. These include community-based scholarships for post-secondary students, artist foundations, holding environmentally sensitive land, charitable purpose real estate.
Long-term Focus
Aqueduct is committed to long-term philanthropy and the advancement of its charitable purposes. While some funds are designed for short-term impact, others are intended to operate for more than 100 years. Aqueduct’s independent Board of Directors has established robust governance systems to ensure responsible, consistent stewardship of all funds well into the future.
