Our Board & Team

Aqueduct is governed by a seven-member volunteer board of directors. The biographies of the board and management team are below.

Board of Directors

    Terri-Lynn Brown

    Chair/Director

    Terri-Lynn is formally the Regional Director, Scotiatrust – Western Canada. She was responsible for the delivery of the full range of trust services (Estate and Trust Consulting and Planning, Estate and Trust Administration) offered by The Bank of Nova Scotia Trust Company in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. She joined the Scotiabank Group in 1994 and worked in the financial industry since 1980. Ms. Brown was appointed as a Director in 2013 and serves as Board Chair. She retired from her role at Scotiatrust in April 2024.

    Ian Worland

    Director/Secretary

    Ian Worland graduated from the University of British Columbia with an LLB in 1995 and has practiced tax and estates law since his call to the Bar in 1996. He completed the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants’ two-year In-Depth Tax Course in July, 1998. Mr. Worland regularly advises clients in personal and corporate tax planning, corporate reorganizations, estate planning, charitable gift planning and international tax and trust planning. He has been a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), a worldwide professional association, since 2002 and a member of the board of directors of STEP Canada since 2007, serving as Chair of STEP Canada from 2013 to 2015. From 2008 to 2016, Mr. Worland served on the board of governors of Quest University Canada and was Chair of the Board from 2011 to 2016. Quest University Canada is Canada’s first independent not-for-profit secular university. Mr. Worland has been an Aqueduct director since 2017 and serves as Secretary.

    Lee-Lynn Gan, CPA

    Director/Treasurer

    Lee-Lynn Gan is a respected financial advisor and Chartered Professional Accountant with specialized expertise in Canadian tax and a broad range of experience in corporate reorganizations, estates and trusts, and planning for Canadian corporations and their shareholders. Based in Vancouver, she works with business families to help their relationships thrive as they manage their enterprises and capital. Lee-Lynn has served on the Board of Governors of St. John’s School (Treasurer, Finance, Strategic Planning and Executive Committees) since 2014 and on the Board of the Vancouver Fringe Festival (Treasurer and Internal Affairs Committee) since 2019. Ms. Gan joined the Board in 2021 and serves as Treasurer.

    Yuko Girard, CFA, MBA, CAIA

    Director

    Yuko Girard is a Director, Portfolio Management, Investment Solutions at Scotia Wealth Management. She is a Portfolio Manager and Supervisor and has over 20 years of investment management experience. She joined Scotiabank in 2008 and worked in various investment roles providing investment oversight, portfolio analytics and construction, and portfolio solutions. Previously, Yuko has held positions at HSBC Private Bank, Bermuda Monetary Authority, and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank. Yuko holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), and Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designations and a Master of Business Administration degree with a specialization in Finance from McGill University.

    Clifford Lachmansingh

    Director

    Beginning with National Trust in the early 1990s, Mr. Clifford Lachmansingh has worked in the Canadian Estate & Trust field in a variety of client facing administrative, advisory and management positions for over 25 years. He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), a worldwide professional association (since 2003) and the Estate Planning Council of Toronto (since 2016). Mr. Lachmansingh is the National Lead of MD Private Trust Company, part of the Scotiabank Group of Companies. In this role, he is responsible for leading the day to day operations of MD Private Trust Company, which includes estate and trust planning and settlement operations. He joined the Board in 2021.

    Dr. Wendy Lai

    Director

    Dr. Wendy Lai is an emergency physician at Humber River Hospital in Toronto. She has worked with Doctors Without Borders/ Medecins Sans Frontieres since 2006, including in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, and Central African Republic. Domestically, she has practiced in rural community hospitals and in the Canadian Arctic. She was elected to the board of directors for MSF Canada in 2015 and served as President from 2017 to 2021. Dr. Lai earned a biochemistry degree with distinction from McGill University, a medical degree from the University of Western Ontario, and studied Family Medicine at the University of Toronto. Her Emergency Medicine qualification was earned through years of practice. She is a Lecturer at the University of Toronto. She holds a Masters of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Lai became a Director of Aqueduct in 2021.

    Malcolm Burrows

    Executive Director

    Malcolm is the founder and head of Aqueduct Foundation. He started his charity career in 1990 and spent 13 years working for three Toronto charities before becoming Head, Philanthropic Advisory Services at Scotia Wealth Management in 2004. Malcolm is an active charity volunteer, writer, educator, and public policy advocate for the charitable sector. He is fortunate to work with Aqueduct’s outstanding team and Board, and particularly loves collaborating with, and learning from, Aqueduct’s donors. Malcolm lives in Toronto with his wife Barbara and has two adult children.

    Jennett Lee

    Chief Financial Officer

    Jennett joined the Aqueduct Foundation team in 2021, responsible for financial operations, reporting and compliance. Jennett primary supports the Board of Directors and Committees, as a partner in policy development and reporting, in areas of Financials, External Audit, Budgeting, Regulatory Filings, Investments, Gift Acceptance, Governance and Nominations. She is also responsible for relationship with key strategic partners, such as valuators and legal counsel.

    Jennett is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA.CA) and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). Prior to joining Aqueduct, Jennett was a seasoned professional with experience in annual reports, financial reports, systems implementation, regulatory standards implementation, acquisitions and divestitures. Jennett lives in Vancouver.

    Patricia Schmeichel

    Lead, Development and Legacy

    Pat joined the Aqueduct Foundation team in 2022, after more than 20 years assisting physicians with their retirement and estate planning. As Lead – Development and Legacy, Pat’s primary role is to assist Donors with planning for the establishment of new Funds, long-term granting strategies and regular updates to ensure that their wishes are well documented.

    Pat has obtained her Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designation from STEP Canada and is currently studying for the MFA-P, through the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. She is based in Winnipeg.

    Kelly Coutts

    Lead, Foundation Services

    Kelly has been at Aqueduct Foundation since 2017, leveraging over 12 years of expertise gained in the finance industry with particular focus on personal and charity investments and operations management.

    As Lead of Donor Services, Kelly’s primary role involves coordinating and inspiring her team to fulfil the organization’s mission. Kelly oversees the day-to-day operations but also serves as a driving force for collaboration and innovation within the team.

    Kelly is based in Vancouver.

    Jeffrey Jou

    Senior Foundation Manager

    Jeffrey was the Tax Manager of Estate & Trust in 2019 before joining Aqueduct Foundation in 2022. As Senior Foundations Manager, Jeffrey’s primary role is to act as the central point of contact for his donors managing all aspects related to their foundation. This involves assisting with donors grant recommendations to establishing gift pledges & scholarships to discussing strategic donation plans and managing complex donations of Private Company Share and redemptions.

    In 2023, Jeffrey obtained his MFA-P through the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. Jeffrey lives in Vancouver.

    Min Jones

    Foundation Manager

    Min has been in the financial industry since 2006, joining Wealth Management in 2018. Throughout the years, Min has held various roles, where her knowledge, experience, and dedication to succeed have transitioned into her current role as Foundations Manager. Min manages donor advised funds and provides ongoing support to fulfil her donors’ philanthropic goals, including estate planning advice, creating charitable projects, and providing charitable research services. Min is based in Vancouver and enjoys camping and hiking with her husband and their two dogs.

    Felicia Haggan

    Foundation Services Manager

    Foundation Services Manager

    Felicia has been with Aqueduct Foundation since 2024 and is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In her role, Felicia oversees the Foundation’s associate team while also managing and administering many aspects of donor services.

    Felicia has her Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Manitoba. Prior to joining Aqueduct, she was with MD Private Trust Company for over 10 years, most recently managing a team of administrators across Western Canada.

    Arden Burrows

    Philanthropic Program Officer

    Arden has been at Aqueduct Foundation since 2022. In her role, she manages Aqueduct’s charitable programs and supports the Board of Directors as Secretary.

    Prior to joining Aqueduct, Arden worked for Members of Parliament, and as a Project Coordinator for a national documentary photography project. She lives in Montreal.

    Lindsay Noronha

    Foundations Associate

    Lindsay joined Aqueduct Foundation in November of 2023. In her role, she supports relationship managers by ensuring all the administrative tasks are up to date, communicated properly, as well as managed accordingly.

    Before joining Aqueduct, Lindsay obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University. She is lives in Toronto.

  • Jo Neid

    Foundation Associate

    Jo joined the Aqueduct Foundation team in November 2020.  Before joining Aqueduct, Jo’s focus was within Wealth Banking where he developed an expertise in administration and processing during his tenure of 32 years in finance.

    Jo’s primary role is managing all administrative aspects of funds from set up to cash management and overseeing the grant distributions according to the donors wishes. Jo is involved in many activities such as volleyball, softball, and curling. 

    Jo lives in Vancouver, B.C.

  • Tejal Shah

    Foundation Associate

    Tejal joined the Aqueduct Foundation team in 2018 and brings over 5 years of experience in the financial services industry. She works closely with Foundation Managers in the management of client relationships providing effective and efficient client service. Tejal brings a diverse range of work experience in different areas to her role, and has very strong communication and attention to detail skills.

    Tejal was recognized as one of Scotiabank’s Best of the Best Cultural Catalysts Awards in 2023. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, travelling and spending quality time with friends and family. Tejal lives in Vancouver.
